1950s Dress

I finished the 1950s dress for Bonnie the BFC doll...
It was a bit fiddly to do, it has proper darts just like you'd get in a human pattern and the skirt was a bit awkward as I didn't really have enough fabric so had to make up my own pattern for it.  But altogether I think it looks adorable.  I got the pattern, inspiration and the tutorial from here .  I think this dress suits this doll, I was going to dress her in quite modern style clothes, now I think she is going to look good in the 1950s style.

Now what shall I make next, I'll check out websites with 1950s fashions and see what I can come up with.

    1. Thanks, I need to fine tune the skirt but otherwise I'm pleased with it. I'm not angsting too much about finish these days so the inside is a bit untidy, I can get on my own nerves with it.

    1. I'm really glad I took the trouble to make this dress, I almost didn't do the bows but I'm glad I did.

  3. It looks perfect and the bows really add the finishing touch. Maybe a flouncy petticoat underneath would be good.

    1. I'm really pleased with this dress, I keep having to look at her in it. Yes a flouncy petticoat would be just right for this style of dress. I'm thinking of making her a winter coat out of fleece, I wouldn't have to worry about raw edges with that, we'll see.

  4. I think you have done a wonderful job. I looked at that link you provided but didn't watch all of it. Is the pattern from an original 1950's pattern? I have a beaten up 1950's Cissy doll that I have to make a dress for and this style would be perfect. Don't worry about the inside finish; lots of hand made outfits leave the seams as they are or use pinking shears. Looking forward to seeing your next creations.

    1. Yes, the pattern is from 1957 and the person who does the video will email out to anyone who wants it. I like her videos, she does everything step by step and she also shows the things she adds to her stash and where she got them. It'll be a couple of weeks before I do anything else, I'll be away for a few days. Hope you manage to make your Cissy a nice dress.

  5. Hi Ann, I'm so glad I discovered your blog today! I think you make lovely clothes with beautiful fabrics. I knit, crochet and sew doll clothes too, mostly for Lorifina from Hasbro, and it's always great to see what other people make. I'm not very skilled yet with the sewing machine, but the learning process is so much fun! If you would like to see what I make, you're welcome to visit my blog www.littlemodelsfashions.blogspot.be (or .com). I will keep following your blog, keep up the good work! Greetings from Belgium, Linda

    1. Glad you found my blog, Linda. Sewing for dolls is a very nice hobby. My problem is, how to store the masses of clothes my dolls keep getting!
